Manchester Leads UK for Lotto Millionaires Since 2023
30 recorded in the Manchester postcode area, ahead of Liverpool and Birmingham

Manchester has produced more Lotto millionaires than anywhere else in the UK since 2023, according to National Lottery data reported by the Manchester Evening News.

As reported by the MEN on 17 October, the Manchester postcode area has 30 recorded Lotto millionaires since 2023. Liverpool is next on 29 and Birmingham third on 27. The figures cover postcode areas, not individual postcodes or council boundaries, and include winners who went public and those who stayed anonymous.

Over the whole history of the lottery, which began in 1994, Birmingham leads with 234 millionaires, followed by Belfast on 202 and Glasgow on 178. Manchester is sixth, with 163, behind Sheffield (171) and Liverpool (166).

The MEN says that bigger postcode areas will usually have more winners simply because more people live there. When it compares totals with estimated adult population, Motherwell comes top, with one millionaire for every 4,156 adults, followed by Watford and Liverpool. Manchester is not in that top ten.

The MEN reports that 140 Lotto players have become millionaires so far in 2026, around one every 48 hours, and that more than half of those wins have come since the new-look Lotto launched in June. Allwyn, which operates The National Lottery, says the new game gives every £2 line two chances to win in each draw and raised the odds of winning any prize from 1 in 9.3 to 1 in 4.9. It expects the number of Lotto millionaires to rise from around 140 a year to around 345.

Allwyn's winners experience lead, Kathy Garrett, told the MEN that “there is no single postcode for luck”. The MEN's article has an interactive map for checking how your postcode area compares.
