Aldi's new supermarket in Orrell, near Wigan, is due to open on Thursday 26 November, according to a list of seven November store openings the discounter announced last week.
The store is being built on a brownfield site off Orrell Road. The Manchester Evening News reports that Aldi described it as a 'more convenient shopping destination' for people in the area, whose nearest Aldi stores are currently in Wigan and Skelmersdale.
Orrell is the only Greater Manchester location among the seven November openings. The others are Basildon in Essex, Newport on the Isle of Wight, Matlock in Derbyshire, Stepney Green and Willesden in London, and Waterlooville in Hampshire. Aldi says up to 30 jobs are available at each new store, Talking Retail reports.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "Demand for new Aldi stores remains strong, and we want more shoppers to be able to enjoy our high-quality products at low prices. Opening seven stores in November is another big step in our growth plans. It will create hundreds of local jobs and bring Aldi's value to thousands more shoppers across the country."
The openings are part of Aldi's £370 million investment in its UK stores this year, as it works towards a long-term target of 1,500 stores. Orrell was already on the list of new stores Aldi said in early October it would open before Christmas, alongside Hattersley in Tameside. Aldi also said its existing Wigan store would relocate before the end of the year.
Aldi has not yet published opening hours for the Orrell store. They should appear on the Aldi store finder nearer the opening.
