Bury Teenager Admits 12 Terrorism and Hate Offences
Damien Woolfenden, 18, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on 4 December

An 18-year-old formerly of Bury has pleaded guilty to 12 terrorism and hate offences, including posting a live-streamed video of the 2019 Christchurch mosque killings online.

Damien Woolfenden admitted the charges at the Old Bailey on Friday 23 October, appearing by video link from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, BBC News and the Manchester Evening News (MEN) reported.

He admitted two counts of disseminating terrorist publications: posting the Christchurch attacker's live-stream video on a self-described "pro-white" platform, and posting the manifesto of Norwegian far-right terrorist Anders Breivik in a Telegram group. He also admitted five counts of possessing documents likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, three counts of stirring up racial hatred, one of stirring up religious hatred and one of stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation, the MEN reported.

The court heard that he had written his own manifesto, in which he said he would “wait until after an election in 2028”, according to the BBC. Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said she had seen material by the defendant which “seems to advocate violence against groups”, and told him she was concerned about what he had been thinking and writing about.

The judge remanded him in custody and ordered pre-sentence reports, including an assessment of whether he is a dangerous offender, the MEN reported. He has no previous convictions and is due to be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on 4 December.
