Hebden Bridge named among the UK's best-value autumn getaways
The West Yorkshire market town, around 40 minutes by train from Manchester, came fourth in a study by Zable

Hebden Bridge, the West Yorkshire market town around 40 minutes by train from Manchester, has been ranked fourth in a study of the UK's best-value autumn getaways.

The ranking, first reported locally by the Manchester Evening News, comes from research by credit card company Zable. It scored destinations out of 10 using average hotel prices, autumn rainfall, the share of highly rated attractions, the cost of the top attraction and the number of Instagram posts.

Fowey in Cornwall came top with 7.94, ahead of Cambridge and Padstow, which both scored 7.85. Hebden Bridge scored 7.65.

According to Zable's figures, the average hotel price in Hebden Bridge was £205 a night, and its top attraction costs nothing to visit. Zable names Hardcastle Crags, the wooded valley looked after by the National Trust, among the free natural attractions around the town. The town also had the third-highest number of Instagram posts in the study.

The Calder Valley town is known for its independent shops, stone cottages and canal towpaths, and Zable described it as striking "a solid financial balance for visitors".

Another Yorkshire town also made the top 10. Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, known for its railway viaduct and hilltop castle, came 10th with a score of 7.

The full top 10 was Fowey, Cambridge, Padstow, Hebden Bridge, Hay-on-Wye, Ledbury, Rye, Penzance, Tregaron and Knaresborough.
