Best UK Hiking Trails Near Manchester, UK |
From Peak District walks to scenic walks near Manchester |

A short circular walk from Bakewell has been named the UK's best 'moderate' hike in a new ranking compiled by sportswear brand Adidas and route-planning website Komoot.
The Bakewell and Hassop Monsal Trail Loop topped the moderate category of the companies' UK Hiking Index, according to the Manchester Evening News. The index ranks more than 100 UK routes on quality, popularity, ease of access and affordability, and sorts them by experience level from beginner-friendly to challenging.
The route
The 3.7-mile loop starts and finishes in Bakewell, the Derbyshire town famous for its tarts, in the White Peak area of the Peak District. It follows part of the traffic-free Monsal Trail, an 8-mile route along a former railway line, before returning to Bakewell on a bridleway.
Although it is classed as moderate, much of the route is on the relatively flat Monsal Trail and it is under four miles long, so the MEN suggests a beginner could manage it. According to the index, the walk also had the highest search demand of any route on the list, with an average of 33,450 Google searches a month.
