Norwegian will start flying direct from Manchester Airport to Billund in Denmark, the town where Lego was founded and home to the Legoland Billund Resort, from 1 April 2027.

The route will run twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, from Terminal 2, with a flight time of about 1 hour 35 minutes, according to Manchester Airport. Fares start from £62 per person return, and tickets are on sale through Norwegian's website.

Why Billund

Lego was founded in Billund in 1932, and the company still has its global headquarters there. Billund's airport, which Lego built in 1961, is now Denmark's second-largest international airport, Manchester Airport said, and the Legoland Billund Resort draws more than two million visitors a year.

Alongside the resort, the town has a Lego Holiday Village, a Lego Hotel, a Lego-themed Sea Life Centre and the Lego House, a building designed to look like giant bricks that houses a Lego museum. Billund Airport also points to other western Danish attractions within reach, including WOW Park, Givskud Zoo and Lalandia.

Before flying, passengers can visit the Lego Store in Terminal 2 departures, which the airport says was the first dedicated Lego Store in a UK airport terminal outside London when it opened last year.

What the airport and airline said

Stephen Turner, chief commercial officer at Manchester Airport, said Billund is not served by any other airport in its catchment area. "For Lego aficionados, Manchester is already the airport of choice, thanks to our hugely popular Lego Store in T2 Departures, and you can now make that store the first stop on a Lego-themed mini break with a difference," he said.

Sara Neergaard, Norwegian's country director for Denmark, said the route also gives travellers from western Denmark a direct link to "a city with a huge cultural appeal and two Premier League clubs with passionate Danish fan bases".

Billund will be Norwegian's seventh destination from Manchester. The airline already flies to Oslo, Stavanger, Tromsø and Bergen in Norway, Stockholm in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark.

Billund Airport said that almost 19,000 passengers travelled between Billund and Manchester with a change of plane in the past year, and that business travellers made up 53 per cent of passengers between the two cities over the last 12 months.
