Medlock Canteen Set to Reopen in Manchester, UK
Featuring the beloved French bistro menu at Medlock Canteen Manchester

Fans of one of Manchester's most-missed restaurants have reason to celebrate: Medlock Canteen is coming back.

The French bistro and American diner opened at Deansgate Square in March 2024, overlooking the river it was named after, but announced its closure in June 2025, less than 18 months later.

At the time, the owners pointed to rising costs, increased taxes and tighter spending, and regulars described the news as 'gutting'.

The restaurant was run by the team behind Mexican restaurant Madre, bistro Winsome and Liverpool's Belzan, and won praise from Guardian critic Jay Rayner.

Now the owners have taken to social media to announce its return: "Did you miss us? Medlock Canteen is making a return."

The comeback will be at a new, yet-to-be-announced location. "We can't tell you where or when just yet, but we'll soon be welcoming diners again from dawn until late, with breakfast classics, lunchtime sandwiches and, of course, the return of some Medlock favourites," they said.

The announcement showed off some of the most-loved dishes, including the deep-fried rhubarb pie and custard and the turkey schnitzel with duck egg.

When the restaurant closed, the owners promised they would 'somehow get that rhubarb pie back to you', and it looks like they meant it.

Diners reacted with delight online, with one writing that their 'dreams have come true'.

No opening date or address has been confirmed yet, and the owners say more details will follow.
